Enrich EMMS Online Help
The merge and purge function allows information from redundant items in the inventory master to be merged to another existing item. Although measures are taken in the merge program to stop users from accessing the parts being merged, it is best if the merging is done at an off-time of the system, i.e. when there is the least chance of a branch creating a transaction for the parts being merged.
Many parts can be merged to a single part at the same time.
Items can be merged online or in batch. This does not handle parts without manufacturer codes.
A cost variance percent can be defined in the Materials business parameters -- Allowed Merge Variance %. If it is, then the cost in all warehouses being merged is checked to ensure none of the average costs exceed this variance. A warning is issued, but the merge can proceed.
Another Materials business parameter, Merge - Update Open Transactions, defines whether or not open transactions for the part being merged can be updated. If not, then the merge is stopped when there are open transactions.
Note that the purge only occurs if all warehouses are being merged.
