About warranties

Warranties are maintained on equipment and on components. They must be defined before claims can be made against them. Once defined, they can be attached to the units or items affected. Any number and combination of expiry values is allowed on a warranty in an "or" relationship. For example, the warranty coverage may be for 6 months OR 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The warranty definition provides the ability to select or remove individual units from the warranty. Equipment groups may also be selected or removed from a warranty and, by doing so, all units within the group are also selected or removed.

Non-serialized parts may be included in a warranty definition. If a repair is performed on the component area to which the warranted part belongs, the warranty situation is indicated on the work order screen. The specifics of the warranty may be viewed from the work order action list. The warranty starting point for non-serialized parts is always dependent on the installation date. Equipment and serialized parts can use the installation date, the purchase date, or a user-defined effective date to specify the starting point.

Extended warranties and limited warranties can be defined using the VMRS component structure, eliminating the need to identify limited warranties by individual part numbers. Instead, the appropriate component codes are identified as limitations to the warranty. If a line on a work order includes the limited component code, the warranty is indicated. Enrich observes the VMRS hierarchy in performing the search; therefore, to identify all components within a system as part of this limitation, you only need to specify the system code.

A warranty definition can be changed at any time and the changes take effect immediately. For example, if the expiration interval is changed, Enrich will run through all included equipment and update the warranty expiry value. While this allows maximum flexibility, it also requires that great care be taken when making changes.

A warranty may be deleted as long as no equipment is attached, even if there are outstanding claims for the warranty.
