Enrich EMMS Online Help
This tax exemption table allows you to indicate that particular types of work, e.g. towing, are exempt from a particular tax. You can also indicate that equipment may be exempt based on GVW. The state in which the work order facility is located will drive the look-up of tax exemptions. The exception is sublet work order lines; for these, the state from the sublet PO will be used to look up the tax exemption. MoreMore
If an exemption is found at the VMRS or equipment level, any exemption that may be defined for the customer will be ignored. VMRS will take precedence over equipment, which will take precedence over customer.
Changing the VMRS/equipment exemption table after the work order invoice has been generated will not change the invoice tax. Should you want to make adjustments, you would need to update the table, reset the work order to incomplete, and re-close the work order for the changes to take effect on the newly generated invoice.
You can override customer tax exemptions, by cost type, on individual work orders. There is no corresponding ability to override VMRS/equipment exemptions on individual work orders. The procedure mentioned above (change table, reset work order, re-close work order) would have to be used.
An assumption has been made that the equipment type is sufficient for separating equipment into the appropriate GVW categories. The actual GVW is not an attribute of the exemption table.
The absence of an entry in this table implies that tax is not exempt.
Tax exemptions will look at the VMRS exemptions when using Lease Rental tax rules in EMMS. When there are no VMRS tax exemptions defined, Enrich will look at the regular customer tax exemptions.
When setting up VMRS tax exemptions, all that is required is the VMRS. If the task, unit, equipment type, and cost type are all left blank, it means that the VMRS is exempt regardless of those values.
When using packages, the package VMRS will also be checked for exemptions.
This is the hierarchy that will be followed, all preceded by Tax Code and Province/State:
