Metric types are specific types of measurement that might be taken such as brake pad thickness or fluid levels. Most require numeric values to be input, but some will allow text or code values, known as permissible values. Permissible values are set up after the metric type is defined.
+/- indicates the direction of change permitted when a delta factor is activated. + means the new measurement must be larger than the previous one, but it cannot change more than the delta factor. - means the new measurement must be smaller than the previous one, but it cannot change more than the delta factor. +/- or B means a change is permitted in either direction.
Delta Factor determines whether delta checking (tolerance checking) is activated for this metric type. Any non-zero value in this field means that delta checking is active, in which case a +/- indicator and a Message Type indicator are also required. When a new measurement is entered for an item or unit, the amount of change from the previous measurement is calculated if delta checking has been activated. If the amount of change does not fall within the tolerance limit described, ten a message is displayed to the user; the amount of change can be no larger than the delta factor. Delta checking is not valid for metrics with permissible values.
Description is a brief description of the metric type.
Metric Type is a 6-character code identifying a specific kind of measurement, e.g. BRAKE for brake pad thickness.
Msg Type identifies what kind of message is display if the amount of changes does not fall within the tolerance limit defined for the metric. You can right-click in the field and select Prompt to select the message type from a list.
Permissib Max is the absolute maximum numeric value that can be entered by the technician for this type of measurement. If left blank, it indicates that any values can be entered. It must be left blank if a list of permissible values is used for the measurement instead of numeric values.
Permissib Min is the absolute minimum numeric value that can be entered by the technician for this type of measurements. If left blank, it indicates that any values can be entered. It must be left blank if a list of permissible values is used for the measurement instead of numeric values.
UOM identifies how the metric type is measured, e.g. LBS for pounds. You can right-click in the field and select Prompt to select the unit of measure from a list.
