The national entity sets up task codes for use in work orders in its database for all the task codes defined in the affiliate's database. The task cross-reference allows the centralized billing system to identify the affiliate's task code on the national entity's system. Although task codes are standard, the affiliates have the option of changing the standard codes in their system and of adding new ones. The cross-reference serves to maintain only these exceptions.
Note: Because the task cross-reference contains only the exceptions, it is possible for an affiliate task code to be mapped to the wrong task code on the national entity's system. For example, Affiliate 1 sets up a new task code 999 and Affiliate 2 sets up a new task code 999 whose definition is different from Affiliate 1's. The national entity sets up code 999 for the purpose of Affiliate 1. When a work order is received for Affiliate 2 containing the code 999 and there is no cross-reference maintained for Affiliate 2 for this code, the work order will be accepted as valid since code 999 has already been set up. But it would be mapped to the code 999 intended for Affiliate 1.
Affiliate Task Code is the task code by which the operation is known in the affiliate's database.
