The national entity sets up equipment units in its database for all the equipment defined in the affiliate's database. The equipment cross-reference allows the centralized billing system to identify the affiliate's equipment on the national entity's system. The cross-reference serves to maintain only the exceptions.
Note: Because the equipment cross-reference contains only exceptions, it is possible for an affiliate equipment code to be mapped to the wrong equipment code at the national entity. For example: Affiliate 1 sets up a new equipment code 999 and Affiliate 2 sets up a new equipment code 999 whose definition is different from Affiliate 1's. The national entity sets up code 999 for the purpose of Affiliate 1. When a work order is received for Affiliate 2 containing the code 999, and there is no cross-reference maintained for Affiliate 2 for this code, this work order will be accepted as valid, since code 999 has already been set up. But it would be mapped to the code 999 intended for Affiliate 1.
Affiliate Unit Number is the unit number by which the equipment unit is known in the affiliate's database.
