About inventory transfers

The Transfer Request functions provide a simple method of transferring parts from one stock location to another without involving inventory adjustments.

There are two types of transfers available: immediate transfers, where the transfer out and transfer in are handled like one transaction and all parts transferred reach their destination with no losses, and delayed transfers, where the transfer out and transfer in are completed as two separate steps.

Typically, immediate transfers are used to handle a simple bin relocation within a warehouse or for transferring between warehouses belonging to the same facility. Timing of the transfer is not significant. The sending warehouse must record both the from and to stock bin locations.

Delayed transfers are generally used to move parts from one warehouse to another where the sending and receiving warehouses exist in different physical locations. The transaction is handled as two steps: sending and receiving. This is the result of a time delay between the part leaving the sending warehouse and being received at the requesting warehouse because of the physical distance between the two warehouses.

The sending warehouse always initiates the request to move inventory.

Warehouse inventory can also be transferred or reorganized.
