Warranty claims may be created independently or directly from a work order. When creating the claim from the work order, a single claim can be generated that covers the entire work order or individual claims can be generated for each line, but both cannot co-exist. This rule is waived when creating claims independently -- then there is no limit to the number of claims that can be generated against a work order. Depending on how the business parameter is set, every claim may not have to refer to an existing work order.
A claim may be deleted as long as it has no collections. If the claim is in Posted status and the accounting generated has already been processed, reversal entries are created. If the accounting entries have not yet been processed, they are just deleted. Any reference to the claim from the work order or work order line is removed.
It is possible to create a claim type that does not generate accounting. If a claim is created using a type like that, no accounting will be generated when the claim is posted. As well, the only option allowed for collection is "Post Collection, No WO". When the collection is posted, there will be no accounting, but the collected amount will appear on the warranty recovery reports.
Claims that are in a status of In Progress must be posted prior to collections beginning. Posting is necessary to create the claim accounting (when the accounting business parameter is turned on) and to mark a point in time from which the claim amount can no longer be changed. In order for an In progress claim to be posted, its referencing work order must be approved (unless the business parameter Allow Claim Post If WO Closed has been set to Yes, in which case a claim can be posted when the associated work order or work order line is in closed status; note that the work order must still be approved before a collection can be entered against the claim) and all required information must exist. Required information includes the warranty code, vendor, and amount.
